The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is the agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that leads public health efforts to advance the behavioral health of the nation. Dr. Joseph Savon Named NJ Top Doc For 2019

NJ Top Docs proudly presents board certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Joseph Savon of South Jersey Gastroenterology for another year. Dr. Savon has been active in gastrointestinal research for many years while South Jersey Gastroenterology has been one of the leaders in comprehensive care for all gastrointestinal diseases and disorders for the past 25 years.

Recently, Dr. Savon has become certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in the subspeciality of Addiction Medicine. As of April 2018, only 1,230 physicians in the nation have obtained this designation.

American Board of Addiction Medicine

The American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) provides assurance to the American public that Addiction Medicine physicians have the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and treat addiction.

ABAM is the nation’s first medical specialty board that certifies addiction medicine physicians across a range of medical specialties. The board sets standards for physician education, assesses physicians’ knowledge and requires and tracks life-long education. It is an independent specialty board established in 2007.

The ABAM mission is to promote the training and certification of physicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of substance related disorders, in order to help address the challenges presented by tobacco, alcohol, and other substance use disorders.

American Board of Preventive Medicine

Preventive Medicine is the specialty of medical practice that focuses on the health of individuals, communities, and defined populations. Its goal is to protect, promote, and maintain health and well-being and to prevent disease, disability, and death, Preventive medicine specialists focus on the practice of prevention in clinical medicine and they apply knowledge and skills gained from the medical, social, economic, and behavioral sciences.

The purpose of the American Board of Preventive Medicine is to grant and issue, to qualified physicians who are licensed to practice medicine, certificates of special knowledge in several areas. Dr. Savon has earned certification in Addiction Medicine from The ABPM.

American Society of Addiction Medicine

ASAM, founded in 1954, is a professional medical society representing over 6,000 physicians, clinicians and associated professionals in the field of addiction medicine. ASAM is dedicated to increasing access and improving the quality of addiction treatment, educating physicians and the public, supporting research and prevention, and promoting the appropriate role of physicians in the care of patients with addiction.

American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry

The AOBNP is one of 18 certifying Boards of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and is regulated by its Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists to administer examinations. These examinations are one part of the certification process for physicians seeking AOA certification and continuous certification in neurology and psychiatry. The function of the AOBNP is to identify those practicing physicians who are eligible for examination to become certified by the AOA in neurology and psychiatry. The examination measures the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of a neurologist or psychiatrist in order to make competent judgments in the care of patients.

American Association of Nurse Anesthetists

Founded in 1931, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) is the professional association representing nearly 53,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and student registered nurse anesthetists nationwide. The AANA promulgates education and practice standards and guidelines, and affords consultation to both private and governmental entities regarding nurse anesthetists and their practice. The AANA Foundation supports the profession by awarding education and research grants to students, faculty and practicing CRNAs. Nearly 90 percent of the nation’s nurse anesthetists are members of AANA.
