Members of the New Life Medical Addiction Services executive leadership team, along with other stakeholders, met with Congressman Andy Kim to discuss a new homeless veterans initiative today. The meeting was held at the property of Marty Weber, whose Yo-Buck landscaping company is located on Rt.72 near the Jersey Shore and the group was brought together by Ned Barrett of digital marketing agency Grey Matter Direct.

Jeff Poissant, Marty Weber’s partner who’s life and tragic death were the inspiration for Jeff’s Camp for homeless veterans.

Marty Weber, a lifelong New Jersey resident and self -described “Piney”, began his homeless veterans program after his partner, Jeff Poissant, died of cancer while awaiting treatment from the Veteran’s Administration health service. As a volunteer EMT, Marty was well versed in maneuvering through our healthcare system and even this wasn’t enough for Jeff, also a U.S. Army veteran, to get the care that he was owed by our nation for his service.

Jeff’s tragic death was the catalyst that drove Marty to make veterans issues and veterans healthcare the central focus of his life. In tribute to Jeff, Marty founded Jeff’s Camp. Jeff’s Camp will be a haven for homeless veterans that Marty is creating on his 36 acre property.

Partnering with homeless advocate Paul Hulse of Just Believe, Inc.,  Marty is committed to creating a place of refuge and healing amidst the tranquility of the Pinlands National Reserve. As Paul Hulse describes it, there will be seven bedrooms that will house 2 homeless veterans each and the facility will also feature amenities like on-site dining, common areas and areas dedicated to counseling and support group meetings.

New Life Medical Addiction Service’s role in this project is central. As New Life’s Co-Founder, Joel Albano explained, the new homeless center will have a facility on site that will provide alcohol and drug detox, followed by an intensive outpatient recovery program of three hours a day. New Life’s treatment will not be limited to residents of Jeff’s Camp. Veterans from throughout New Jersey will be able to come to Jeff’s Camp to receive addiction treatment on an outpatient basis.

Watch Dr. Joe Savon discuss how meeting Marty Weber has been a blessing

For New Life, being able to participate in Jeff’s Camp is a blessing and an opportunity to give back to the very people who have put their lives and health on the line in the defense of America.

Congressman Andy Kim’s active participation in this initiative is another indication of the difference that he is making in South Jersey. “After fighting with the government for so long to recognize the plight of veterans, it is wonderful to have the active involvement of Congressman Kim.” said Marty Weber. Marty and Congressman Kim became friends after the 2020 elections in which Marty ran as an independent against Kim and his Republican rival.

During his nearly hour-long visit to the site, Andy Kim toured the property and dug into the issues surrounding homeless veterans. everyone involved appreciates his earnest support of this important initiative.
