As a father and coach, Todd Fedoruk is very passionate about the challenges that face teens and young people today. He brings a unique perspective from the world of pro sports since he has seen first-hand the impact that performance stressors and injury plays in drug misuse and abuse.

Todd is a realist when it comes to sports at every age. As he says, there are only 800 NHL contracts in effect at any time and there is no escaping the fact that the process of getting into the pros at any level is one of the hardest things for a teen or their parents to aspire to. Since the odds are stacked against student athletes it is important for parents to be realistic about their teens chances for a college sports scholarship and an eventual career in professional sports.

In this interview, Roni and Todd discuss a range of issues including:

  • His NHL career and how he feels as a retired athlete
  • The stresses that parent’s place on their high-school athlete teenagers
  • Setting realistic expectations for teens and kids in sports
  • The rise in fentanyl as the most dangerous drug in America
  • The role that injury plays in teens becoming addicted to painkillers
  • His thoughts as a father
  • The different developmental stages that face teens in high school
  • His views on outpatient treatment for addiction to opioids and alcohol
  • The challenges facing teens today

We hope you enjoy this lively and highly informative interview
